Cross country is one of the most popular sports in the world. In the high school sport, there will be 550,000 boys and girls running cross country in the U.S. Sixteen thousand high schools have cross country programs, and 19,000 have track & field programs.
Many high school cross country runners do not run over the summer. Those who do see the benefits on the first day of fall cross country practice.
