The Champs XC series is the evolution of the FootLocker Cross Country series. The results below are from the South Regional. 

Ciara O’Shea and Rocky Hansen Capture First Place Titles in the 43rd Annual Champs Sports Cross Country Championships South Regional

RACE HIGHLIGHTS:

Ciara O’Shea of Richmond, Ky., and Rocky Hansen of Hendersonville, N.C., won the Champs Sports Cross Country (formerly Foot Locker CC) Championships South Regional today. O’Shea, a senior at Madison Central High School, claimed the title in the girls’ championship race in 16:58.9. Isabel Conde De Frankenberg, a junior from Cedar Park, Texas, finished second in 17:01.7, and Allie Zealand, a junior from Forest, Va., placed third in 17:05.7. Five of the top 10 finishers from today’s South girls’ race are two-time national finalists including O’Shea, Zealand, sixth-place regional finisher Thaïs Rolly of McLean, Va., seventh-place finisher Abby Faith Cheeseman of Bell Buckle, Tenn., and ninth-place finisher Maddie Gardiner of Charlottesville, Va.

Rocky Hansen, a senior at Christ School High School, took the title in the boys’ championship race in 14:40.1. Nathan Atchue, a senior from Moneta, Va., finished second in 14:49.9 and Kevin Sanchez, a senior from Austin, Texas, finished third in 14:54.3. (Kevin) The lone repeat national finalist from the South boys’ regional race is Sanchez.

Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C.

COURSE/WEATHER:

5,000-meter course; good course conditions; 54 degrees; sunny skies; light breeze

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS:

The top 10 boys and the top 10 girls in the championship races qualify to compete against runners from the Northeast, Midwest, and West Regional meets in the Champs Sports Cross Country Championships National Finals on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif.
